Doll Children Drowned

I think every Greek chorus is just The Fates in a new hat. This may just be a me thing, but it does change the way I interact with the plays. Related, in Greek tragedies things often tend to be the fault of the fates or a curse or the gods, anything that removes the bulk of the blame from the humans who make the mistakes. I am very interested in how fate and free will play out in these stories, and I have many thoughts about they function out in the story of The House of Atreus.

These two pieces portray Iphigenia, Electra, Orestes, and Chrysothemis as ball jointed dolls, manipulated by some puppeteer, tangled up in threads, caught in the rain. How much agency do they have in their own stories, how much agency do we have in the face of our own sorrows? Other emotions may be considered here as well, but I couldn't resist the alliteration.
